Inkjet vs Laser printers!

So which is better and why?

I've herd pros as to laser printers lasting longer interms of ink, yet I herd you can't print on some type of papers.

So which is better?

And whats the best printer I can get (needs scanner) for under $100.
Can be inkjet or laser.

I like the speed of a laser printer and I believe you can print on MOST types of paper I am not 100% sure you may want to ask when you buy. On the other hand most laser printers don't print in color like inkjet's do. My family has one of each
