INSANE Ping Spikes - SOLVED

Hey guys!

Thought I could figure this one out on my own, but NOPE!

Every night for the past week I've been getting lagg spikes while playing CS:GO.

My ping typically resides around the 30-40 ms marker, but in these spikes it'll go anywhere from 150-250 ms all the way up to 700 or 800 ms.

Any idea on how to fix this? I have a solid connection at my parents house from Xfinity and it stumps me. I've tried resetting the router/modem multiple times. I'm hardwired right into the back of the router (Netgear Nighthawk AC1900)

Do you have any live utilization metrics on the WAN interface?

140 mbit can be sucked up pretty easily by a transfer. I had to put a shaper on ingress/egress for our connection to avoid huge spikes during fast downloads.

traffic-policy {
shaper wan-down {
bandwidth 118mbit
default {
bandwidth 100%
burst 15k
queue-type fair-queue
}
}
}

I honestly have no idea.

Where could I find this information?

I forgot to mention this only happens around 9pm-1am MDT. Could it be beyond my network?

Redditors are having the same issue. Some people claimed to have fixed it by disabling Win10 game DVR that's enabled by default

EDIT: Router does need a firmware upgrade so I'll be doing that later tonight.

DOUBLE EDIT: Found how to prioritize devices with QoS on my router. Putting myself at the top :p

TRIPLE EDIT: Counter-strike was listed as the least prioritized program, and my QoS boosted bandwidth was set to 400Kbps, now is 12.4Mbps..

Does anyone else use your network during that time? If someone initiates a large upload like a photo, it's going to cause a lag spike.

Nobody in my family is up that late except for myself :p

Seems the lagg has gotten better by putting my PC as the top device in QoS, but now everybody else experiences issues during daylight hours.

Router has yet another firmware update. Depending on how outdated it is, updating might be part of the solution.

Final word: Downloaded and ran a program called PingPlotter while playing CS:GO this evening. The latency is coming between my PC and my router.

I know it's not the cable, and it's not my router. I optd to buy a PCIe ethernet port to see if that fixes the issue.

Will be here next Thursday, possibly before knowing my previous Newegg Premier orders.

Fixed the issue by disabling QoS on Netgear R7000 Nighthawk, and disabling 'SIP ALG' under WAN > NAT Filtering.

Seems Netgear has issues with its QoS software. All choke/jitter in the network has been eliminated! :D
