Inspiron 1200 Keyboard Issue

I have a dell inspiron 1200 notebook that has a keyboard that is malfunctioning. When you type a letter typically more than just the letter you type shows up. For example when you hit the L key you get ;\ or something really odd like that. I don't think it's the computer it's self because i tried a USB keyboard and that works just fine. I also don't think it's something that was installed on the computer because it's been sitting unused for about a month. I tried a system restore and that didn't help either. I'm just trying to figure out if I should try anything else before I buy a new keyboard for it. They keyboards sell for about 15 - 20 bucks on ebale so buying a new one wouldn't be that big of deal. Thanks for your help.

I didn't really think keyboards had anything but generic drivers, i found a link on a website that said something about the ribbon cable coming part way undone on that particular model so i'm going to see if i can't reseat it and get it to work again.

some keyboards need them..... but try reseating it.

This is why laptops should never be used as a main machine...things like these can interrupt your work. Why is it that laptop keyboards are so flimsy and feel like they are made of cheap plastic and cardboard? It scared me when I felt a laptop's keyboard at a store one day and how it flexed.

And even if you don't use it as a main machine, why it's still an interruption.

well they are small and easy to take around that is why people use them..

it also depends on the maker of the laptop to how good it is made.

Yeah, i would have to agree. Unfortunately, we do running race timing which requires the use of computers for our chip timing system. Laptops are really the only way to go in such a business because you have to be able to transport them quickly from race signup, to the finish line. In addition there are times when we don't have electricity at our race sites either (normally we end up using a portable generator). As you can see, for such a business laptops are really the only option.

Lol, that makes no sense. Anyway I just don't like laptop keyboards because of how I have to hold my hands so I bought a logitech desktop set for when I'm not on the go. I love it.
