Inspiron 2650 finds/can't find connection...

Hello,
I'm new here and my computer knowledge is a bit limited. But I have a problem that is driving me crazy! I have a Dell Inspiron 2650. I recently got a high speed internet connection, but the computer sometimes can't find it. My old dial-up is still in place, and when I start the machine it says it's connected to the new (fast) connection- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No rhyme or reason to it. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and that seemed a bit better. If I run my Spybot and Spyware Blaster, then it will work again (sometimes).
Any help/advice much appreciated!
Cheers,
Paul.

I would run a spyware scan from adaware and webroot and see if you have any programs on there that might be interfering with your system. There are lots of spyware programs that will highjack your network connections, and cause issues such as those you are experiencing.
Spybot is great, but it might not find them all. These spyware programs are getting sneakier all the time.

Get adaware: www.lavasoft.de

Webroot: www.webroot.com
