i just ordered an inspiron 600m with a pentium M 1.6 ghz, pc2700, i855PM chipset.

the fsb on the processor is advertised as 400 mhz. im running everest and the motherboard properties show

front side bus properties
bus type........intel GTL+
bus width.......64 bit
real clock.......100 Mhz
effective clock...100 mhz
bandwidth 800 mb/s

does the mobo not support 400 mhz fsb? could someone explain? i thought the effective clock should be 400 mhz.

thanks

The only FSB speeds as of now are 100, 133, 166, 200, and 266MHz. Saying that the FSB is 400 is a marketing ploy.

i found out after 2 hours on the phone with dell and speaking to their senior engineer. apparently the bus speed fluctuates based on cpu usage and when cpu usage is 0 the bus speed is 100 mhz. its part of the centrino thinga majig.
