Install of new device

So i have been goofing around with a usb to ide calble and am having problems with the install software(drivers). My machine recognizes that new harware is there and i have followed all setup instructions but when it comes time to find a driver the computer says that it cant find any. Am I missing somethng or what should I do that i havent done. Thanks for any help, or if you could guide me the right direction that would be good.

i am running win98

I an trying to install the drivers for a usb to ide cable.

Go to the support page of the manufacturer, they will have drivers there that you can download. You may have old drivers.

did that

I did that and it didnt help. I have run all the setup programs and had windons search for drivers on the cd and what i downloaded and still nothing. the place i bought the item says it should work, and I am seeing if i am missing something before i go in to the store and have them take a look at the setup and driver disc.

use the manufactrure CD

u must use the Manufacturer CD to install the new hardware (to tell ur OS about the new driver)
in XP u don't

Do you mean the Cd that came with the device, because when i search for the driver on that cd, nothing shows up. I have folders on he cd that pertain to my device and they look like driers to me but when windows does its search none are found.

try to find drv or driver on that cd, and then when windows come to recognize it -?> manually browse to the directory of that folder that contain the driver
