Install XP from Recovery Partition

I am trying to recover or reinstall xp media center operating system on a friend’s hp Pavilion dv9000 from the recovery partition. It has the o.s. and a recovery partition on hard drive 1 of 1. It is so corrupt that Windows won’t run nor can I make it boot into the recovery partition using f11 key at startup. All it will do is chirp when using f11 key.

No recovery discs were made for this machine. Short of ordering recovery discs from hp, could someone tell me if it would be possible to install xp pro sp1 from a legal copy onto the “c” drive (and not erase the “d:/ recovery” partition)? Then maybe I could use that installation, when completed, to access the recovery partition and finally reinstall the original xp media center o.s?

I would appreciate a discussion and maybe a solution for this situation. Thank you very much.

Your best bet right now would be to order the recovery cd's from HP and reinstall windows. If the recovery cd's aren't available anymore, you will have to back up the data by accessing it through another system and then buying a new OS for it and install it.

Installing XP pro won't help you acess the recovery partition.

Sometimes the F2 or F10 key will work for HP, if not have you tried
Recovering the system from the Windows desktop
1.Disconnect all peripherals
2.From the Windows desktop, click Start, All Programs, and then HP Tools.
3.Select HP PC System Recovery. The Recovery screen will appear with the
question Do you really want to start HP PC System Recovery?
4.Click Yes, to continue the recovery process.
5.When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive
recovery.
6.To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.

I can't get any of the suggestions to work for me. I think it's beyond the point of recovery without the hp recovery disc. I'm going to their site and check out the disc purchase. I'm grateful for your help, thank you very much.
