W000T just finished building my comp 2day!!! W0000T!!!:D
which leads me to my question...

wat do i have to install first right after i install xp?(i should install xp first right?)
does it matter?
i was thinking of installing in this order:
1. XP
2. the monitor cd
3. motherboard cd(do i need to install w/e is in the floppy? it says SATA RAID on it but im not doing any raid cuz i only got one HDD)
4. gfx cd
5. sound card cd
6. dlink wireless card cd...then install the card into the comp(it says to install the cd b4 putting in the comp so ya)
7.all the extra cd's like mouse and CD drive cd that it came w/

and when i install something i have to restart the comp every time right? b/c i heard that when you first install you have to restart so it wont cause anyproblems and makes the comp run bettere...or sumtin like that.

so im guessing since no one is replying...that xp should be installed first..and it doesnt matter wat order i go in to install everything........

you should use the raid driver when you're installing xp because xp still wont be able to detect it because it wont offer native support for it. once you're done installing xp i would install motherboard and motherboard utilities. then grahics and sound. then do you networking stuff once everything else is up and running

ok new problem...it cant read my new cddrive i just bought that i set as MASTER..but the one i put on as my slave it can read it...so i had to put my xp in that one...how do i fix this??and i kno i connected it..

you could try putting it in as cable select, swapping around on the cable also. other than that there's not much else you can try

cable select?? ill try to make both masters b/c i got an exxtra IDE cable...and see if that works... thats ok too right?

Looks like a nice setup. Congrats on your first build.
TY...its easy to put in and get the parts...hard part was figureing out wat cable goes where and making it looks nice at the same time:confused:

obviously the master should go at the end of the cable and whatever the other one is goes on the second spot.
cable select is labelled CS on the back of the drive. two set as master would conflict. there should be three jumper options, each being master, slave and cable select

Have a look here as well as Building Computers 101.

A better guess would have been "we dont live here and theres no point bumping after 1hr"

You should be fine since the mobo has native support ... course i not tried myself since i dislike RAID0/1

Makes and models?

You can make them masters if they on separate cables

obviously the master should go at the end of the cable and whatever the other one is goes on the second spot.
Doesnt matter where the drive goes if you set the jumper :)

i fixed the problem already

sry im just really paranoid on getting my comp to work properly since this is my first build

that wat i was thinking. i just didnt kno you had to move this little green thingy on the back of the drive from CS to SL to MA. i thought that stuff were actual cables. master being the one at the end and slave in the middle but iwas wrong..

ok thats all i wanted to kno. so i dont need a floppy drive anymore.

but now ive come across a new problem again
when i tried to instal the GPU's driver i got in a cd with my card it would freeze my comp, so i just downloaded the newest driver from XFX. After i installed the driver and restarted my comp, a window popped up and it was something about nvidia(cant remember exactly). I follow the directions and one step said if i had HDTV, i said no, and conitued, then it said your setup will look like this and had a preview button, i pressed it and saw just my background of my desktop, 15secs later is returns. and i finish the setup or w/e. once i press finish my desktop becomes just the background pic and nothing else. so i cant do anything... i restarted my comp thinking it would fix it but once window is done loading it's just the blank background again. i didnt kno that my screen would litterally look like the preview..i thought it was to see how it would look like in a game or just showing off the gfx. so wat do i do? how do i get back all my desktop stuff like shortcuts and the start menu?

No worries... just gotta realize that by nature of a forum, things arent "live" :)

Ok this is the scoop: if you mess with the jumpers, you can ignore the cables. If you dont (i.e., cable select) then you dont have to mess with the jumpers ... what you want to avoid is having:
  • Two drives SET to master (or slave) on the same cable
  • One drive SET to master (or slave) and the other as cable select, but the CS drive is on the master (or slave) position

1. Lesson learned: dont bother with OEM drivers, get them straight from nVidia
2. Right click on desktop --> properties --> goto "desktop" tab --> click "customize desktop"

2. Right click on desktop --> properties --> goto "desktop" tab --> click "customize desktop"
thats the thing i cant right click on anything!! its driving me nuts!!! i cant see my cursor, and i dont even kno if my keyboard is responding b/c ctrl+alt+del wont even work!!
is there anything i can do in BIOS or something? or do i just have to start all over and reinstall windows xp?
