I really need help here because I am not sure what to do about this. I am running a Dell Optiplex GX1 with an Intel Pentium II processor (350 mhz); 256 MB of RAM; Windows 2000 PRO; and I have a 4 MB ATI Rage Pro AGP 2X graphics card that is built into the motherboard. I removed old video drivers, disabled the old video controller, and turned off computer. Next I put in the new graphics card (ATI Vision Tek Radeon 9250) into an empty PCI slot. I turned the computer on, and installed the drivers that came with the card. I restarted the computer and everything was going fine. Everything shows up good on the monitor too. I opened my system settings and the new graphics card is detected. Now when I try to play any game using OpenGL mode (such as Quake II), it will work for anywhere from 2 seconds to a minute or two, then the monitor screen goes blank and monitor message pops up saying "Please check signal cable". I have to restart the computer to get it to go away. I even tried using another monitor and got the same problem. The new graphics card supports opengl and direct3d and it is a 128 MB card with 400 Mhz DAC. I checked the system requirements for the card and they are ok. I tried other games that don't use 3D modes such as The Sims and that works fine. The old video card played OpenGL modes but was extremely slow. It can't be that my new video card is bad because the monitor doesn't give the error message or go blank until I try playing OpenGL type games. But the funny thing is: somtimes the game will run fine in OpenGL for like a minute or two, but then the error "Please check signal cable" will come up and I have to restart the computer. I also tried running these OpenGL type games in windowed mode, and I get an error message from ATI catalyst control center saying something like, "Your graphics accelerator settings were reset to default because your graphics driver stopped responding", and the game pauses up. After a moment or two, it will continue to run fine, then it pauses up again. For some reason, in windowed mode I don't get the "Please check signal cable" error, but the game still freezes up every other minute and I get that graphics card error message... I tried reseating the video card in a different slot, and in the same slot again, but still have the same problem. Please help me as I am completely clueless and this is frustrating... Thanks.
