Installing a hdd in a laptop

Hey guys, new here, I have a laptop that can take 2 internal HDD's. I just ordered the cable to install a 2nd, but I don't have a caddy. So can I pad the excess space with cut up T-shirts? I do have the caddy from my old laptop but its only the thickness if the drive, IE too thin, I can leave it on to keep the black protector on the board on the drive.

Don't use cut up tshirst as they may overheat the drive. You still want some airflow. I would use small pieces of polystyrene in strategically placed spots. You can do what you're thinking but don't be lazy.

Why not just go on eBay and buy the correct caddy for your new laptop?

$35 dollars for a silly little caddy. $30 for the cable.
