Installing a new operating system

I have obtained a copy of windows 8.1 on my current computer. I want to install it on my second hard drive that is going to go into my new computer with out it installing on my current computer.

How would I do this? I already tried installing it but it never asked me where I wanted to install it.

You are not allowed to install an operating system with the same activation key on 2 computers at the same time.

Seems to be a contradiction in terms.

You can't. You need to wait to install it. The only thing you COULD do is to pull your other drive out, install it on your second one (don't install drivers or activate it), install all the Windows updates, then sysprep it before putting it in the other machine.
