Installing a new processor

I have a kind of old desktop emachine computer from when xp barely came out that broke down.I also have this windows 98 compaq computer that ive had installed all the ram and hard drive from my other broked down computer. Now what i want to put is the processor from the emachine computer to the compaq but when i tried this the computer didnt run so is their any programming i need to do before i can just install it.would like instructions or a website with the instructions
