Installing Apps In a Flash Drive

I was think about installing linux onto my USB Flash Drive, but gave up after realizing it would be generally useless... But anyway, could I install Apps (like small games) directly onto a USB Flash Drive and just run them from the USB on any computer?

why bother installing linux on it when many distros of linux have a LIVE cd of the release, no need to install anything and you got a running linux os...

putting apps and backup files on a flash drive would be a good idea if you maintain a lot of computers, then if one computer goes down or needs some new stuff installed, you can easily just put the flash drive in and its all right there and easily accessible...

I'll definetly check those out, but if I can find regular apps that can fit on the Flash Drive can I just install those regular apps onto the USB and use them at any computer?
