Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but... I am having loads of trouble downloading and installing Java! Can someone point me to a step by step tutorial on installing the new java?

strange, if your ubuntu package manager is up to date, java should be there, like mentioned on the page here, or try here. Haven't used linux in ages so i forgot everything

do a search for it

Ahhh... I see it! There is quite a few. Which one?

EDIT: If I get any of the packages it says: E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the download directory

When I click apply it says that!

can you link an image ?

most times install anything related to Java*, the jdk, sdk etc etc

Wait umm. When I download the Java Runtime 6 I then click apply and it gives me a error:

Code:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/sun-java6-bin_6-13-1_i386.deb: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/sun-java6-jre_6-13-1_all.deb: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

Then update manager pops up and it says: Not all updates can be installed. and it is telling me to get a partial upgrade but that did not help. I will try rebooting.
