Installing Limewire on a Mac.

Hello.

I have acquired a Mac-Mini computer, and wish to install Limewire on it. But, before traveling on with that issue, I'd like to add that I am an old school music lover - and that the bulk of what I am interested in is no longer in print. That, in a nutshell, is why I wish to have Limewire onboard.

I have downloaded Limewire onto the Mac, but cannot get it to activate. Every time that I click on the program's icon, its twin will briefly blink, on the lower bar, then immediately disappear. Is there anyone who have had this experience, and who might be able to help me conquer the issue. This is my absolute first experience with a Mac, so I am very much a fledgling here.

I would recommended downloading Limewire at all, its's all filled with viruses and such, I had to reformat my laptop 3 times because of downloading music off that thing I would just rather buy music off Itunes, 99C a song, Limewire is full of it.

Thanks for your prompt response. I know what you mean - about contracting viruses and such, from Limewire. I have surely had that experience with my PC, which is why I vowed never to install that program on it again. But I also (as mentioned in my initial post) have a Mac-Mini now, and have been informed that Mac's don't suffer the ill effects of viruses, as do the PC's. Of course, that could be a bunch of crock - but it is what I have heard - from a number of sources - and I thought that I'd take a chance.

Your suggestion about dealing with ITunes, at 99 cents per song, is not a bad idea at all. I just wonder if they would have the 'old songs' catalog of the type of stuff that I would be interested in. I'll see if there is such a thing, on their site, where I could check out what they'd have, before committing myself under a paid account.

I've been using limewire for a long time and I haven't got any viruses. You have to look at the file name and info before you download it, like if it's a song for example then look at the size and length.

Getting virus from limewire is not hard. but like Bartmasta said, you have to watch what you download, eg. look at the name, if it is exactly how you spelt it in the search in lower case then it most likely is a virus, also look at the size, if it says the song or something is something like 419kb when it should be something like 3,000kb, then most likely a virus.

I have been using limewire PRO for years and have only come across a few virus, but cause of my own deliberate doings.

but now to NLAlston's question, iTunes is more likely to have the songs you aer looking for than limewire, limewire only has songs that other people are sharing when itunes have (not 100% on this) every song, or so i have heard.
and why limewire wont boot on your mac, make sure you download the properlime wire that suports mac computers, search for it on the net and make sure it says LimeWire for Mac.

Hope this helped

Dan

What OS is the mini running as iimewire prob wants tiger at min. Also do they have a PPC and intel version. Practically itunes is better IMO. Although theres DRM it's still awesome and I don't know why people like listening at 320KB . I don't know any better as to me its just music

Who the hell uses limewire these days... it's all about torrents now.

May'be the people who cant be bothered going to websites to download the torrentz, they can just open up a simple program and download as much as you went and when you want, downloading music and such, from torrent sites is much more easier to get viruses than limewire
