you will need to put the dvd into your drive, and shut it down. then restart it, and enter BIOS. In the BIOS, you will need to set the DVD drive as primary boot, and boot from the CD. Then you will be able to install. If you follow the onscreen instructions, you will be fine with the dualboot install.
It should be fairly straightforward. I don't think you will have any issues. Just be careful during the partitioning part of the setup, and you won't hurt your Windows install at all.
The MBR (master boot record) portion of the disk is where the code that loads your operating system(s) resides. It will be overwritten by a Linux boot loader when you install Linux. If you want to remove Linux later, you will need to get your Windows restore CD out and reinstall the Windows boot loader. That's still easier than having to reinstall Windows, and will not affect your actual Windows install. You don't have to reinstall the Windows boot loader unless you want to completely remove Linux permanently.
If you want to install a different version of Linux later, then you can just overwrite the Linux boot loader with a new version of the Linux boot loader. This should happen automatically each time you install a new Linux version, just like it will automatically overwrite the Windows boot loader when you first install Linux.

Assuming you have Mint 10, all you have to do dual boot wise is specify that when you install mint. It'll see the Windows OS on there, and ask you if that's what you want. Then you can use the slider to specify each OS's size. From there, it's cake!.

How do you enter the BIOS? Is it F10

Depends on your computer manufacturer. It could be F1, F2, Esc, Delete, F10, F12, and a couple others I can't remember atm.
