Installing Linux On 7" Notebook

I have a 7" notebook brought from ebay and delivered from hong kong. The specs of the system are:

300mhz CPU
128MB RAM
2GB Flash Hard Drive
SD Card Slot
Windows CE 6.0

I would like to install linux onto it. I have tried getting into the bios, but am unable to find the right key. I think i have a allfine bios nut unsure. i have tried ubuntu on a usb stick (to see if it will actually load linux) but had no luck. I am about to try mandriva (from pendrivelinux.com) to see if that will work.

Anyone have any ideas? ive tried USB Stick, USB DVD drive already.

Anyone know the allfine bios key?

I think that you are having a hard trouble with booting into Linux because your system might not be able to handle the bigger distributions.

Take a look at Damn Small Linux and Puppy Linux. Both are not as aesthetically pleasing as the others but They are the smallest distributions that I can find.

I'm really fond of Ubuntu netbook edition, but i think it's too heavy for your system.

As salvage-this says, DSL would be good i think.

ive tried installing dsl using a sd card, but when i turn on the notebook it foes straight to windows ce loading screen.

I would have thought that DSL had the grub loader with the instillation but it might not have. Could you get it to boot at least?

it seems ive got to get into the bios but am unable to find the correct key (if its even possible to access)

from what i can gather, when i turn my main pc on it says press the dl key to enter setup, on this device there is no key, just the windows ce loading screen. ive tried loads of hidden keys from websites.

do you mean hit delete (dl) to enter the bios?. Sorry I guess I just don't really get what you mean. The BIOS should be accessible for anyone without any special tricks

I'm still trying to figure out why someone would want one of these..

I guess for $75...

I agree:good:

What could you possibly do with it? Most modern phones have 3 times more processing power then one of these. I'd rather buy a 10 year old 15lb laptop, that could at least run a nice linux Distro, or even Windows 2k.

I get laptops from friends that are upgrading because their system seems too broken to use. I get a new battery if needed and throw Ubuntu on it. It's like brand new again. Amazing what a fresh install can do.
