Installing New Processor Vertically

Hey guys,

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard with a Core 2 Duo E6750 processor. I plan on upgrading to the Quad Q6600. The heatsink I'm using is the Artic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro.

Is it possible to remove the heatsink and install a new processor without removing the motherboard from the case itself? In other words, I want to do it vertically. Reason being I have everything tucked away perfectly and REALLY don't feel like removing it all. I've gotten the airflow down pat.

yep it sure is but make sure the case is on its side because downward gravity is needed for a proper install in ZIP sockets

i suppose you could, but it is much more likely that you could damage your motherboard, processor, heatsink, or a combination of them all. I am not sure because i am an AMD guy, but dont you have to fasten an intel chip on the other side of the board as well?

I'm not 100% sure. I watched a couple of Intel installation videos, and never noticed any brackets or dongles on the flip side of the motherboard.

ok, then i am sure you could, i use AMD, and the system to attach them to the board is quite different. although if you are upgrading to a quad core, i reccomend upgrading the cooler to a ZEROtherm BTF90. I use that and my processor hasnt gone over 40 degrees celsius under full load.
