Installing new RAM. HELP!

Ok so I have a pc with 1gb memory set as 2 512mb sticks, I recently bought2 sticks of 1gb and added them so that the highest stick is in bank 0 etc.

When I turn the pc on it gives me continous beeps but after taking the old sticks of 512mb out it boots up fine with just the two 1gb sticks.

Basically if I buy 2 more 1gb from the same website as i purchased them will they work ok, or do you think I have faulty memory slots?

Hope that makes sense lol.

Many thanks.

they should work, some memory doesnt like playing nice with others :D i would get two more 1gb sticks anyway just to have dualchannel 4gb setup :D

what motherboard do you have? Your mobo may only be able to handle 2 gigs total. Also, it may not allow you to mix and match volumes.

if you cant handle the extra memory you can flash the bios to support more. throw a stick in the slots you think are bad and try to boot off of it.

make sure your motherboard can handle the ram your putting in and make sure your ram and slots are clean and inserted properly if it gets to the point of the hdd trying to boot then the system speaker keeps going BEEP BEEP BEEP (continous beeps) then it is not in properly or your mobo cant handle it

if i read correctly, you're mixing and matching different sized sticks? i can remember my family's hp didn't play nice with a pair of 512mb sticks, and a pair of 256mb sticks, got rid of the 256mb sticks, and it worked fine

Could the machine possibly be operating in dual-channel and the sticks need to match?

What computer do you have?

What RAM did you purchase exactly?

It's impossible to diagnose a problem without the specs of your board and the speed of your RAM.
