So I have 2 computers at home, both connected to the internet, one has an original copy of windows xp professional and one has a burned copy of that.
so now im wondering how to install sp2 on the burned win xp. i tried to do this just normally over the internet, with windows update, but it gave me an error message. The error message says that sp2 cannot be installed due to an unvalid serial code.

I appreciate every respond. thx

Do you have the right to install this windows version on 2 PCs ? OEM versions are made for just 1 PC, so if you have only 1 OEM windows, you are not allowed to install it again on another PC and consequently, you are not allowed to install SP2 on the second PC.

If you want my advice, call Microsoft and tell them the situation and see what will they tell you.

You can slipstream service pack 2 onto a "backup CD" of windows XP and this would be the easiest as well as fastest way one can install SP2. Think of how long it takes to install service pack 2 each time you reinstall windows XP, You slipstream it onto your "backup copy" and it's installed each time automatically when windows is installed. You can google for Slipstreaming SP2 onto windows XP. I've done this and it works great, you'll need to download SP2 to your HD first as the disk that you can order free from Microsoft cannot be slipstreamed.

On the other hand you could also order the free disk from Microsoft and install it this way also. You'd then however have to reinstall SP2 on your PC every time you install Windows XP which makes slipstreaming the more attractive option.
