Installing SP3

Hello. I heard someone saying the other day that you need to install SP2 prior to installing SP3. Is that true? I would think it would contain everything before it

you shouldn't need to install SP2 before SP3. Service Packs are cumulative.

Microsoft has SP1 listed as a requirement, and SP2 as recommended.

They are only cumulative to the supported level.

SP1 and XP gold are no longer supported. So you must install SP2 then SP3

yup

but i was referring to slipstreaming (integrating service packs into your cd and burning a new one)- to do that to an original xp cd, that you must do sp2 full first, then sp3 full second.

Note You must have either Windows XP Service Pack 1a or Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed in order to install Windows XP Service Pack 3.

I wrote in another thread my SP3 problem. I reformatted and when finished I installed SP3 that I had previously downloaded, all went well until it attempted updates.
All security updates were 0 kilobytes and I was constantly reminded to update, but I could'nt so I went back to SP2.
Come find out Windows Installer was not included in SP3
