OK, so i downloaded the Ubuntu 7.04 image and burned it to a disk. I play it from windows and everything goes great. Then I set my boot sequence as CD-ROM first, reboot, and it pops up with the Ubuntu menu. I felt like I was flying. Then I try to use the arrow keys to move up and down to choose, and it wont let me. So I press enter to start or install it, and it wont let me. So I wait until the time runs out and then it says something to the effect of "BIOS error". So I reboot and put my HDD as first boot, then I am here talking to you in XP Home. Help!

there you go. some need drivers and it cant handle it. try a standerd keyboard. (forget the name :B the round ones)

you may have to wait on that. but also some keyboards come with the connector from usb to the round thing

ok got one!! But it tells me the same message. I figured out that its something about "apic". It tells me to boot and type "noapic" . What the heck does that mean?

no i can move and all, and when i hit enter to start it says "error", and something about apic. i figured it out, i am supposed to type "linux noapic nolapic". ill brb and report

Your USB keyboard is most likely not working because you need to go into your BIOs and enable Legacy USB support.

About the "apic" message, if this is a live cd, boot the cd, wait for the options, press F6, then type "noapic" without the quotes.

yeah LaRoza!! thanks!!! thanks brianmay!! thanks laroza!!!

ok so i got in and now i want to install it but I have 8mb of free space and everything else (2 partitions 20 and 140) are formatted in NTFS...

so I am trying to do an insane transfer of cramming everything into the 20 and making a 130 and a 10 and transfering the windows stuff back in the 130 and using the 10 for linux.

wish me luck with the transfer! then ill have dual boot XP home and Ubuntu!!

BTW how can i get my internet to work in Ubuntu?

well i was on live, and it tried to open firefox and of course it didnt work. theres no "control panel" or "network connections" so i have no idea what to do. when I do the actual install is there something to the effect of a start menu in Ubuntu?

it should be like system, admin, network controles. or ipconfig and look for something else but eth0 and lo

awesome!! I am now dual booting Ubuntu and XP Home!!!! WOOO

I havent actually entered Ubuntu yet to fix the internet though, I am first checking some things with XP. Will report back tomorrow
