Installing windows 7 on Harddrive

Hi

I seem to be having some trouble installing my windows 7 onto my laptop. Its been acting up lately so I decided to give it a fresh install of windows. I had tried installing windows on Monday and for some reason it gave me an error trying to install. I tried again and for some odd reason the 3 partitions that usually show up are now reduced to 1 partition which is the main drive I usually install my windows 7 to.

Now when I try to install windows to that partition it tells me:

"Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300024"

When I trying to make more partitions by pressing "New" a dialogue comes up saying:

"To ensure that all windows features work correctly, Windows might create additional partitions for the system files."

Okay fine.. I press yes because I'm under the impression this is needed and nothing happens.. the mouse shows the loading circle but then it does nothing as if I pressed something.

TL: DR ... Partitions disappeared - not letting me install windows 7 to hard drive while giving me an error "Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300024".

Sorry for the long story, just wanted to be as detailed as possible. Also hard drive does not have any information on it as far as I know even if so while installing I'm unable to format the drive oddly.

Thanks

My advice would be to use killdisk or dban to fully delete the drive and then repartition it and try installing again. Or its a possibility that there are errors on the drive that need to be fixed. What brand of hard drive is it?

Now I was wonder how I would go about using those programs you listed? Could they be used on start up of the laptop? Cause my laptop has no OS on it.

Also the hard drive is a WD Scorpio Blue (Came with the laptop(Lenovo Y570))

Just download Hiren's Boot CD and burn the ISO to a CD. That ISO has DBAN on it.

WOOT Dem utilities Thank you o.o! so many, possible to use a storage stick instead of CD?

If you have a spare flashdrive, download the Yumi installer (just google it - first result) and then just find Hirens in the list.

Thanks for all the help guys I'm going to give this a go and see what the out come is I hope this fixes the problems.

Did you format the flashdrive with that program?

If that doesn't work, just follow this guide:

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd-on-usb-disk

Okay well I used the program and I'm not sure if I did something wrong... but i got it to boot on start up and selected the dban but when I try to erase I get like a upper blue screen and a black screen at the bottom, and to me that looks wrong from what I see on youtube. I tried various command like autonuke, quick and dod all show me problems.

Did you download the bootable disk creator version? If the drive isn't bootable, then nothing will happen.

Yeah I got it.

One drive sized 2gb I already killed

my other is 698.6gb so it might not finish until tomorrow, I'm going to leave it to do its thing over night and hopefully it will cooperate tomorrow and install my windows 7 ><

once again thanks for your patients and help I really appreciate it, must be tired of me. lol!

698.6 gb still on the diskkill is it normal for it to be still at 0% with 52:31:32 time left lol...

I canceled it as its not responding (Killdisk was able to cancel the process of erasing though..not frozen.) after a full night and half today the time remained the same along with the percent... does this mean the hard drive is just shot?

I did some more trouble shooting and got an external enclosure and hooked my hard drive to it, i can't see the hard drive in "my computer" but i can see it connected in printers and devices.

So I used the KillDisk as you advised again but on my desktop this time it seems to be getting somewhere this way, 12hrs though.....
