Hello currently on my system i have windows 7 32bit installed. But i want to upgrade to windows 8 64bit software. And from what i have read, you cant directly upgrade from 32 to 64 so i have bought myself a OEM windows 8 64bit to start a fresh from that. I have everything i need on 2 32GB flash drives but how do i use the OEM software. Do i have to completely wipe my hardrive so i can install the software. If i try to install while my computor is running it comes up with an error saying i cant run 64 installation on a 32 bit software.
Help please
Thanks, Greg

You need to boot to the Windows 8 DVD and just follow the installation. Just be sure to delete all existing partitions. When it says "Unpartitioned Space" you can just click Next and Windows will automatically partition and format the drive.

First, insert the installation media in your DVD drive.

Second, make sure your BIOS boot settings are set so that the DVD drive (which I assume is where you're installing from) is set to boot first.

Then, when the prompt comes up (if there is one) press any key and setup should load.

Completely wiping your hard drive is recommended if you've got all your files backed up.

Boot off the Windows 8 DVD, select 'Custom Installation' (upgrading will be disabled anyway since you're going from 32- to 64-bit), wipe your hard drive (remember to back up anything before you begin installation) and there you go. :)

i know my way around my computor fairly well but one thing i have never had to do is wipe it soo how do i wipe my hardrive ??

In Windows 8 setup, just select Custom Installation like spirit said and delete all partitions on your hard drive.

Yeah that's the way to do it, or when Windows 8 setup asks you where you want to install, format the partitions. I tend to use just delete all the partitions though and then carry on with setup.

Okay finally got into the bios, and got my computor to boot from th oem windows 8 and now after i have deleted the primary partition i have now got an error saying (Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has ab MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks) ???

You will need to completely wipe the drive. Download and use either killdisk or dban to nuke the drive. Then restart the install and it should work.

All you really have to do is to re-partition the hard drive. Do not format it, just install windows 8 on a un-formatted disk. I had to do this with a friend's computer last week. And it loaded fine after that.
