greetings,
i have yahoo instant messenger (im) installed on 3 of my computers. i was carefull when i did this to write down my user name and password and all installs went fine, except yesterday.

.....i have a biostar motherboard running at close to 4.0ghz, sata 300 hd, 1gb ddr ram, windows xp pro sp1+2......i have downloaded the program and it will not allow me to "sign on". all i get is "a try later" message....

....i have used a "saved" exe program file as well as one FRESHLY downloaded from the yahoo site....i only have 1 instance of yahoo running at one time and i have shut down all/any firewalls....since i can sign into my "im" account in my other computer, i know that there is no problems with my account.... why am i having such problems now?..any ideas as to how i can get around this problem?..thanks!

This sounds like a stupid question, but you do have a solid connection to the internet from that computer right?

Us usually the only reason it won't let you log in is because it can't get to the internet.

Even if you were logged in on another computer or your phone it would log you out on other devices.

...thanks for the reply...yea, i DO have a solid connection to the net and that is what i cannot figure out, unless yahoo is doing some maintenence or something but, i doubt it for 3-4 days!...besides, i can log onto yahoo im with my other computer.....

......thanks for the replies!...i just built the computer (approx 4.0ghz) about a week or so ago...i have a firewall on it but, have not only allowed everything through it but also have uninstalled it as well and tried it.....damndest thing!....

UPDATE>>>

..you guys aren't going to believe this but, it just installed!...i switched keyboards and rebooted and put in all the pertinent info and it worked.

....now, one would figure that the keyboard was messed up in some way but, i verified that each character typed coresponded with the keyboard...this is one of those "how the hell do i know what i did or what happened" situations!...

....thanks to all for the replies and if i ever figure out what the hell just happed (maybe something at yahoo's end), i'll let ya know!

it might have something to do with your IP configuration...
try go to Control Panel > Internet Options

look for 'TCP/IP Configuration' or something along those line, click on it and click Settings... make sure that it is set to detect automatically instead of a fixed IP address...

this might or might not solve the problem but no harm in giving it a try...

EDIT: nvm... damn, i typed too slow... by the time i post u posted ur update... lol... :D:D
