insufficient system resources to complete API

When I start my computer (windows xp), before the "signing in" screen comes up this error message shows up:

lsass.exe - system error
insufficient system resources exist to complete the API

I know that there is not enough free disk space, but I cannot access my drives to free up some space. Safe mode and Debug mode do not work either.

Please help, I have to access my files.

Do you have a Windows disk that you can boot into the recovery console with? You should be able to delete files from there. You could also take the drive out and install it as a secondary drive in another working computer and pull the files off that way.

Also, is it lsass or isass (but with an uppercase I)? If it starts with an i then it is a virus and you have a seperate problem.
