integrated drivers

a quick question, when removing ATI integrated video card drivers, is the procedure the same as removing normal ATI video card drivers? Should I just disable the drivers instead of uninstall them since its integrated?

I have an integrated Radeon Xpress 200 and I want to install a Nvidia Geforce

Integrated drivers would be for the onboard video. If you adding in a separate card you should only need to disable the onboard and set the bios to PCI-E or AGP from the PCI defualt seen there. If those are removed Windows will prompt for them when redetecting the vpu chip while you can easily go into the device manager and choose the disable option seen when right clicking if needed.

Once you dsable the onboard and item found in the DM you can remove all that since Windows won't be prompting for drivers. Otheriwse that would simply sit on the drive with the NVidia drivers/software being what is actually loaded. The msconfig can be used to disable the ATI startups if you want to leave things intact in case the new card has to returned for some reason.
 
First, you disable the onboard VGA in the device manager. Then you have to completely remove the ATi drivers with this tool:

You must do that before you install your nVIDIA or the drivers will fight with each other. You can't even really use the uninstall feature in the Control Panel because tidbits are still left behind.

If you were told anything else, ignore it.
 
Once you have disabled the drivers/software from loading along with the onboard being disabled the ATI drivers are no longer being loaded at startup but simply sitting in the system32 folder taking up space. The first you would likely see would be the NVidia installer presenting a message about existing drivers needing to be removed before any driver conflict could even occur if there is clash with them remaining on the system.

When swapping out an ATI card for an NVidia model you are then required to see everything removed totally being in the same type of device catagory. The installer for the new card will stall right away.
 
Well can't you also disable the integrated graphics card in the bios? I looked in there and it gave me the option to choose between onboard, PCI, and PCIE.
 
Often you simply disable the onboard which you have to anyways and later remove the drivers/software if found necessary. Otherwise you can use the msconfig to simply disable any ATI elements from being loaded.

They are still two different types of graphics devices when you consider those running multiple monitors will often run a PCI type card along with their PCI-E model with two completely different sets of drivers/software seen there.

No, that doesn't disable it. It just chooses which device it will try first. If you have a PCIE card, for example, it will try that one first, then the onboard.

You have to disable it in the device manager.
 
On most boards changing from onboard to AGP or PCI-E will see the onboard disabled unless you find another setting. Refer to the board's user manual about this. When in the DM simply under display adapters and disable any ATI item found there once the new card is in the right click menu.

What make and model board are you running there since that wasn't asked earlier? The manual can usually be reviewed online as well.
