Hi everyone, I'm new and this will be my first thread.
I'm building my first PC with a ~$1000 budget.
Mostly buying everything from www.tigerdirect.com.

Here's my build:
Transformer Case-http://www.xoxide.com/sunbeam-transformer-case-black.html

Asus P5N-E SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard $139

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz $299

OCZ Titanium Dual Channel 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz EPP Memory (2 x 1024MB)$79

Diamond Xtreme Sound 5.1/16 bit Sound Card$19

Lite-On LH-20A1P SuperAllwrite OEM DVD Burner - 20x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R Read, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, 48x32x CD-R/RW, Black, No Software $39ish?

Seagate / 320GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive $79ish?

EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS Superclocked / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card $199

Misc:
Ultra / Fire / Socket 775 / P4 3.8Ghz / Copper Core / CPU Fan

Ultra / X-Finity / 600-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm Fan / SATA-Ready / SLI Ready / Black / Power Supply

Logitech MX5000 Cordless Keyboard and Rechargeable Laser Mouse Bluetooth Desktop

Acer AL2216WBD 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

It all adds up to about $1100.

I'm going to be buying/building once school starts...which is late August to early September. Looking for suggestions. What to skimp on a lil and what to beef up a lil. I'm looking to build a PC that'll last me maybe 4-5 years if possible running everything.

Questions-
Should i go AMD cuz it's cheaper or should i stick with Intel?
Do i need the E6850 or should i just go with something less like the E6750?
Is a 600w PSU sufficient?
Should i OC the 3.0 at all or should i just buy a 2.66 and OC to 3.0?
Will the price drop in a month, or should i wait even longer?

Thank you guys, appreciate the patience for reading this boring list. Feel free to say whatever you want, make random suggestions and criticize.

I would go with an 8800GTS 320 or 640Mb if you can....

I have the E6850 and haven't got to use it yet:(, it is supposed to be an OC'ing monster though. Get a Zalman CPU cooler or a Thermalright....

What's a good deal for the 8800?
I heard it's a monster costing a crudload of money.
Do you think my 8600 will last though? >_>

Thanks

8600 is just not all it's hyped up to be....

I highly recommend the 640Mb model, the DX10 games will require more VRAM than DX9. I am getting an Ultra, I think it's a pretty good deal.

Better case

well...its +$100...

If i went with a E7500 instead of a E8500...i think it saves me around $100?

Would it be better?

C2D E7500 2.66 Ghz paired with the 8800320 mb

or

C2D E8500 3.0 Ghz paired with the 8600 256 superclocked

Thanks again

Probably E6750 and 8800GTS 320Mb, I still think you should go with the 640Mb. Yes, the E6750 saves you $100 from the E6850...

you could dip even lower and go e6550? im sure you could overclock it up to 3.0 easy and with a zalman cpu cooler itd probably stay cool. then you got bout 30 more bucks in your hand to spend

The E6550 is lower than the E6600 and I would say the E6600 is the lowest I would go with an 8800 video card.

well the thing is i'm not looking for an uber gaming pc

i just wanna stay up to date for maybe 4 years.

so i know a 8800 gts 320 is definitely enough
but is a E7500?? E6500?

is the mobo i have good for now?

Okay, no gamer, go with the E6750 and 320Mb 8800GTS.... Since you don't heavily game, this will stay up to date for a while.;)

the e6550 performs about equal to the e6600 on benchs though, and is 40 bucks cheaper, and its 1333 fsb, even though from what ive seen the 1333fsb is a neglible difference as of now but in time it should make a bigger difference
