Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

Does anyone think that the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 is outdated now in comparison to CPUs like AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition or Intel i5/i7?

Looking to possibly upgrade my computer.
 
Yes it's outdated, and is slower than higher end i5s and i7s, it can probably equal the Phenom II in most things though. What do you use your PC for?
 
Gaming and other such simple software. Nothing too intense as of right now. But I want an upgrade that will last awhile. I was just surprised that the E8400 is still selling at $180 at newegg.

You said that it matches the Phenom II (which is new)?
