Intel CPU ATI GPU

I wanted to get an ATI 4870, and I currently have an AMD 64 x2 5600+ cpu. Right now though, I have an Nvidia card and the amd cpu. I was thinking about picking up an intel e5200, in which case I would need a new MOBO.

I am looking for MOBO reccomendations that can accomodate an intel CPU and an ATI GPU, or, if you think that getting the intel processor would be a downgrade, let me know. I don't want DDR 3 RAM though.

Can anyone at least tell me what kind of northbridge chip I need to use an ati card? Can an ati card run on an nvidia chipset?

chipsets wont determine what brand gpu you can use. i'm pretty sure the e5200 is better than your current cpu, but, i've yet to own either.

I agree chipset wont matter for GPU...though the Phenom line for AMD see increase performance with the 770 and 790 chipsets.


Also E5200 will beat 5600+ at stock clocks + can overclock better then AMDs line can. If you want a SLI board search on newegg for GIGABYTE GA-EP45 the big brother to my board has SLI and overclocks great.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm already doing SLI on my current setup, but I wanted to upgrade to the 4870, which is a different brand, so I was worried about combatability issues, but thanks for clearing that up.
