Intel extreme edition vs. fx60

Just like it says. What do you think. Becuase doesn't it make sense the extreme edition will be better being of the dual processor and the hyper threading enabled on both of those cpus? Thus acting as 4 cpus in the intel extreme edition. Vs the fx60 which only has 2 cpus. Voice your opinion.

most games still struggle to use dual core optimially, so 4 logical cores will show little improvement in the games.

One area where there may be a significant improvement would be the 3DMark06 CPU test. But as for games, i really dont think those extra 2 logical cores are going to help out much.

Yes, but the intel would be better yes?
Most likely at multi-tasking, but i think the FX-60 would be the best option to get, especially since it's a great overclocker.

its like comparing a P4 with HT and an AMD single core. the difference is that the AMD is better in gaming, and the intel EE is better at multitasking. of course, some games, like quake 4, would utilize P4's HT making the comparison between athlon64 single core and the P4 with HT different from the comparison between the athlon 64 dual core and Pentium EE.
basically, the Pentium EE has the most cpu resources... but the FX-60 performs faster if the cpu resources don't go over its two cores... which isn't likely.
personally i prefer AMD but either will be a really good CPU. AMD uses a lot less watts, netburst consumes too much energy. personally though, i wouldnt get either of those CPU's.. a lower priced CPU will still more than meet system requirements for any application.. still faster is nicer :)

yea, the FX-60 would be worse at say... converting video. but the FX-60 would also be better in any game out there probably.

lol know what would be funny... is if they made a system that had 32 or more processors.. and it processed a video conversion faster than the hard drive could read the videos. WEIRD

Acutally, in MaximumPC they OCed an FX60 from stock to 2.9ghz for each core, and it beat the crap out of the EE in almost evey test.

2.9ghz is extremely high for an AMD processor. i'd definitely expect an FX-60 to beat the Pentium EE in almost any test with those clocks. did they overclock the EE at all? tomshardware got it to 4.26ghz if i remember correctly.
2.9ghz for each core
lol wut they couldnt just overclock one? haha

btw can you link us to this review?

check out their benchmarks... they're very close. the Pentium EE performs better in some areas worse in others.
of course, Intels procs still use up a LOT more power.. most likely resulting in cooling difficulties... and less ability to overclock successfully.

I relaly dont know- they might have OCed it to 4ghz, im not sure. They were using some insane cooling on the poor FX too.

Pros: Extremely fast. Highly Overclockable (even with stock cooling). When Phase-change cooling is used, the FX-60 can go OVER 4GHz! (I know other people have had trouble going over 3.4GHz, but my Sub-zero cooled CPU can hit 4.1GHz)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: AMD FX-60 Overclocked at 4.1Ghz! (Stable!), phase-change cooling w/ CPU:-35!, 4GB RAM, 2 x X1900 XTX (and no, I don't play games, just write code ;) ), 4TB RAID1+0 WD Raptor 150GB SATA external drive arrays). I can EASILY get a PCMark score well over 10,000, much higher than any other posted score :D. Though, I once got 16,900 followed immediately by a curious score of 2,200; maybe PCMark wasn't supposed to count that high :P.

Look at that- two 4.1 cores. AHHHHHHH! This was a review on Newegg.

I read that a Pentium D 930 smoked an FX60 3GHz, does it sound plausable?

"Pros: Cheap Cool Fast Overclocks VERY well

Cons: Mine runs hot but the newer steppings run much cooler.

Other Thoughts: I have mine overclocked to 4.5GHz with a Big Typhoon but even at 4GHz it EASILY creamed a friend's 3GHz FX60 (both of us had 7900GTXs at stock speeds and 2GB of RAM, DDR500@2-2-2-6 for him and DDR2 667@3-3-3-8 for me, I beat him by over 3 seconds in Super PI and it was not even a contest in any benchmarks or in game FPS measurements. Fantastic value, even more so when overclocked! Be sure to pair this up with Asus P5WD2 or P5WD2-E

Review from newegg.com.
I alse read that someone has OC'd a Pentium D930 up to 5GHz!

I dont think so, since i had mine oc'd to 4Ghz but it still didnt perform better than any X2's that were oc'd did.

Are we talking about the Pentuin EE 3.46GHz or the new EE 3.73GHz, cause if its the latter then the comparison is debateable, although i would still edge towards the FX60 for gaming, but the EE 965 3.73GHz is an absolute beast!

i wouldnt get either of those CPU's.. a lower priced CPU will still more than meet system requirements for any application.. still faster is nicer
where was that attitude during our htpc argument

a Pentium D 805 barely costs $1000... like the FX and EE processors. :D
faster still = nicer.
im talking price/performance... a pentium d 805 definitely increases performance enough vs. a celeron d to spend the extra $75 on it.
spending an extra $800-$900 for an FX-60 rather than the pentium d 805 wouldn't be good price/performance.
i just built an all-out system for my uncle with a sempron 2600+ and 1gb memory with two 80gb sata2 hard drives in raid 0. why? because he'll notice a difference with the extra speed raid 0 offers. the most processor intensive application he might use is windows media player, and maybe burn a cd or two.
did i mention he also prefers a wireless desktop and a 19" LCD? oh right... because sometimes computers aren't the same thing to one person as they are to another. :P
if you wanted the best of the best type of processor you might take your chances on an opteron 146 or 165, but you can guarantee one of the best by buying an FX or EE. but, i just dont prefer spending all that money.
