i have recently had a processor cooling setup fail on my intel i7 920.
(while my girlfriend was using comp i may add) and it wasnt realised till the computer shut itself down.
when i came home i had a look and replaced the colling with an arctic 2 cooler now it still runs and does everything i ask it but and this is a big but it now runs at 70-75 degrees while on idle and 85-90 degrees while gaming is there any help you guys could give me or is fro the graveyard.
thanks phill.

if you didnt clean the heatsink and heatspreader on the cpu, you may want to remount, applying one dab to the cpu, or lines along the heatpipes if its a direct contact cooler and carefully set down the cooler again.

yes the thermal paste was correctly applied but aLSO THE CPU FAN PORT ON MY BOARD HAS STOPPED WORKING AND I HAVE TO USE AN AUXILLARY PORT THAT HAS NO SPEED CORRECTION SO THE FAN IS ALWAYS RUNNING AT ONE SPEED.

the settings are correct for the cpu fan socket but that does not work so fan was plugged in to another spurious port which only gives one speed my mobo was the gagabyte g58-ud5
i pusrchased the whole comp second hand and that may have been problem the seller sold it.

and to cap it all off i purchased new mobo and processor on recommendation of local comp shop and have found the mobo to be inadequate to do job as second pci-e slot is only x4 not x16 so losing serious performance from my second gpu not a happy bunny.......

had it too long and at the time i actually didnt say anything about running two graphics cards.
so what are the recommendations on a new mobo that will do the job thats needed and wont cost the earth.
thanks for all your help phill.

I think he wants to try to keep using his current processor maybe. So he'd want something LGA1156, Although upgrading to an i5-3570k or i7-3770k would be a good choice too, although the next gen is coming around, not too sure when, but an i3-3220 could hold you until they are out then jump to an i7.

no he is talking about his amd 6100 pro.
the i7 is broke and now he has a amd, but his 2 7870 xt are not performing wath the can because he has a bord now that has 16x4 lanes.

your both right i have purchased a new mobo and processor as in the other thread but i would also know if this i7 can be saved or is it destined to the intel scrapheap cause if it can be sorted i will build another puter around it with thanks phill.
