Intel L2 Cache

I've read the CPU 101 regarding L2 Cache (serveral times) and I'm still a little confused. How much L2 Cache IS too much. I was considering a 6xx series Intel CPU and then remembered reading that too much can be counter productive. Are the 5xx series CPU's with their 1MB. of L2 Cache, more efficient than the 6xx series CPU's with their 2MB. L2 Cache??????

its performence not only depend on its cache, but also its efficiency...p4 is so hot(43C)

O.K., so then are the P4 560's and 561's quicker / more efficient than the P4 660's compared on the same chipset (barring 64-Bit on the 561 & 660)?

The 6XX is faster than the 5XX equivalent due to the larger cache size, it has nothing to do with the register/address bus sizes. The increased cache has higher latency though so the increase is very small.
