Intel or AMD?

I was just looking at the AMD CPU's and they are cheap! But are they just as good as the Intel chips? Or better? If you don't know, I plan on getting the Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83. It's 319.99 bucks for the Intel.

the difference in really hardcore games and benchmarks is very significant between AMD processors and intel processors at the moment. but in everyday web surfing my E4500 performs just as well as an overclocked E8600. theres no difference lol. and also in games like Stalker: Clear Sky almost any dual core somewhere around 3ghz will be able to handle the process easily. (an e8400 may get 80fps but mine gets 45 and i cant tell the difference between the two.)

yeah depends on what you're doing.
if your playing some online free games, and email and music and junk, even an e21xx will work fine, or a similar priced energy efficient amd cpu...
amd typically have good combos with motherboards on newegg, but i'd go intel if your spending $200 on a cpu right now..
i'd seriously wait a bit till i7 and AMD's 45nm come out, prices should drop quite a bit at first, and keep slowly lowering...

My opinion, they are equal. Look at benchmarks on processors in your budget and choose the best one. No preference here.

I second that. Just get a good mobo and wait till the new stuff comes out and get those CPUs. They will be better than what we have now. Or you could just wait for the price drops.

If you are going to use it for gaming then run with intel. If you are going to uses it for light work suck as Internet browsing and light gaming, then run with AMD.
