Intel or AMD

so buying a new processor. question is which one. narrowed it down to 2

Intel Pentium D 830 3.0Ghz
or
AMD Athlon 64 4000 2.4Ghz

going to be using mainly for Video and Audio Editing.

thoughts?

I would suggest the pentium d because it is duel core and everything will be faster. The athlon would be better for 3d games and stuff.

Typically with multi-tasking, the Pentium is faster. However, the Athlon is faster when using raw performace(like encoding a DVD)

If you could upgrade to say, an X2 3800+, that would be better (if not the Core 2 Duo). But out of those two, I would go with the Pentium D.

Still, if you can afford a Core 2 Duo, it would be the best option.

yea a core 2 duo is only 130 dollars if you look in the right places. but i would go with the AMD because they outperform the pentium D's and they are rgeat for overclocking and gaming

$130USD i dont think that they can sell them that cheap

show me a link

ok so now i've un narrowed them my options...added a third into the picture

AMD Athlon 64 4000+

or

intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86ghz

or

intel pentium D 830 3.00ghz

ok so i'm going to go with core 2 duo 6300 on a
ASRock 775DUAL-VSTA ATX LGA775 motherboard, reason being i've got a good AGP video card i want to keep using.
any idea if there would be problems using OCZ ddr2 (2x1024mb) OCZ26672048ELGEGXT-K memory on that motherboard?
