Are the atom processor and celeron procressors from intel really bad? They were made for laptops no? But I see a lot of those on desktop does that make it very slow or something? Would I be able to change that if I bought it or would I have to buy it with a better processor to begin with?

The newer Celeron's really aren't that bad. I posted a SuperPi time from my mother's laptop (About a year old with a Celeron) and it's pretty high up there. For basic web browsing and such, they are more than adequate. Just realize I'm talking about current generation Celerons. The older ones were junk.

As for the Atom... Eh, it's really what you expect. It's not really meant to be a desktop replacement or anything. Mine struggles to play flash videos and some 720p videos. But I mostly got it for casual web surfing, typing stuff, and chatting. I also keep mine around 900MHz/1GHz to help prolong the battery life.

As the other one said, the Atom is for netbooks. If it's used by what is a considered a notebook then it'll be slow and it most likely won't be worth the money. But if you're just browsing and typing then it'll be good.

They now do dual core atom processors for media centre builds and I think they are really good because you get Dual 1.6Ghz processing power and no need for a fan and they come with good ion graphics for media but I wouldnt bother with a single core Atom and basic graphics like said above my netbook struggled to play even youtube videos!!

If the Celeron processor is a Celeron E Dual-Core processor such as the Celeron E1500 I would say it is decent quality.

The Atoms have less processing power than the Pentium 4 processors did.
