Intel Q9550 or Core i7??

It should depend on how much money for all other parts you need. The Core i7 requires a whole bunch of different parts to be able to use the Core i7, such as 3 sticks of DDR3 RAM, and a completely new motherboard with an X58 chipset. If you have an extra $600 to spend on top of the CPU, then go for it.

However, if you don't want to replace the motherboard and RAM, stick with the Q9550. You can just pop it into a lot of other cheaper motherboards and save a ton of money on RAM seeing how cheap DDR2 is these days.

i would go core i7, because looking at your sig, i'm just going to assume your motherboard isnt an lga socket period. as of now, the i7 is probably the smarter way to roll, they can oc like no tommarow also

if you have cash to burn then yes the i7,but the Q9550 will handle just about anything you throw at it for a long time to come yet.

dont always have to have the latest and greatest ;)

It really is a tough call. If you need to buy a new motherboard and RAM anyways then I would say go with the i7, however if you can't spend $250+ on a motherboard then go with the Q9550 and the LGA775 platform.
