intel vs amd

The new AM2 chips from AMD are just like the athlon xps except they have ddr two memory controllers in them.
I hope you're kidding. They stopped making Athlon XP's ages ago.

when EFI technology becomes standard cache won't really matter as much anyways. Who knows how far away that is. However, the newest line of intel macs do use EFI technology. So at least it is being produced.
You do know that EFI technology is going to be replacing the BIOS, not the cache right?

and if we talk opteron vs xeon, opteron whoops it stupid.
A K8 based Opteron beats a Core 2 based Xeon? Pfft, wrong.

EFI (extensible Firmware Interface) will replace the BIOS, I know what it is. It will also allow hardware developer to develope 32bit applications that they can load into flash memory on their hardware.

meaning, no more boot sectors on HDS

No more drivers, support is built in via EFI

All hardware is controlled on the firmware level, not the driver level (OS)

Motherboards could come with 8GIG flash drives and you could load an OS on them, faster boot time, and its direct access to the hardware.

EFI, is based off of Open Firmware, which has not really caught on except in the PPC world of hardware. However, it looks promising and will change a lot of things if it catches on. MS, did however, come out and say its first release of vista will not support it

As for the opteron, only recently with the release of the woodcrest chip has intel beat the opteron in performance.

Even though there may be direct access to the hardware and to all low level functions, the cache is still going to play a relatively significant part in a systems performance, as even the supposed EFI flash drives which may be coming out will not be able to match the bandwidth of L1, or even L2 cache.

Why are you bringing up outdated information in the first place? Make statements based on current information.

Even with the new Conroe, i still have to be an AMD man. They made some outstanding CPUs in the past, and still are, but Intel just got ahead of them this year. I think Intel is finally relizing that the higher the core speed doesnt mean its better........lol.

ty AMD all the way

and the new AM3 chips are compatible with teh AM2 boards so you save in the long run

If upgrading to such a "new" processor, I find it hard to believe that you will be able to harness the full power of AM3 when using an AM2 board. I don't know, just makes me wonder.
