Intel Xeon 5500 series vs 3400 series?

I'm spec'ing out a server machine...
What is the difference between a Intel Xeon X3460 2.8Ghz, and a Xeon X5560 2.8Ghz.
There is obviously a big price difference, but what makes one better than the other?
They are both 2.8Ghz 1333mhz.

I'm guessing that the X5560 has more cache, probably has virtualisation and some other features.

Maybe go look them up on intel's site?

They both have the same cache size.
The x3460 runs on socket 1156 and is lynnfield (like the I7 860 and I5 750)....meaning dual channel ram. The X5560 is bloomfield (like the I7 920) and uses socket 1366 and triple channel memory.

As far as actual computing power, there isn't much difference...certainly not worth over three times the price.

That's the answer I was looking for.
Thanks!

The only thing that socket 1366 has going for it over 1156 is the future upgradeability to a hex core.

BUT, the octo-core's are going to be based off socket 1567 so by the time your server needs upgraded again it could probably wait until the 1567 octocore.
