Intel Xeon X5690

why would anyone buy a 990X? i guess for the dual sockets but they're going to have those for the lga2011 for a sandy bridge-e or later on ivy bridge-e or whatever it'll be called, and still the only point of that is if you like to through 2 grand straight into the toilet, plus another 500+ for the mobo.

the difference is that dual 6990's will actually gain performance on multiple monitors (like 3+), but anything over a 2600k won't and the 2600k barely does anything over the 2500k and that's only in like 2/3 games.

few points...as above...plus you would be running ECC ram too...so honestly...dont bother unless your going to use it in a cad workstation or a computational box...

I would still rather have a i7 3xxx than two xeons, if it is for gaming. That's like putting a workstation GPU in just because it's more expensive.

or an i5 3xxx IVB, I would really recommend 3930K over server CPU as it will last for years compared to quad i5.

there was a guy I was talking to over the internet, who has dual Xeons and 96gb RAM. He runs a RAMdisk with a virtual Windows loaded into it from his hard drive. Apparently it takes about 2 seconds to boot up the virtual machine.
That's always a consideration for you, if you wanna go for that kind of high-end build.
