I just read an article on Anandtech.com i dunno how many people have seen it, but its about intels new procs built with 65 NM fabs. The tests are pretty impressive oced from 3.6 to 4.5ghz with air cooling. lower heat, lower power, now intel can really compete with AMD on the Power/Heat field. AMD is about 6 months behind Intel, but when they catch up, you can expect some 3.2Ghz FX Procs. http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2578 thats the url, hope you enjoy if you havent seen this yet.

Any process size decrease is supposed to reduce power and heat, there we some initial problems with the 90nm process as well as the considerably longer pipeline that caused heat and power issues with prescotts

Yea but because of those problems intel is making strides to never repeat that problem, lots of r and d into their newer procs.

looks good for the future. In the long run this will benefit the consumer; the competition needs to closer run to give developement a kickstart. I wonder if my next system will be based around socket M2 now...
