Conroe is a future pentium M core. Hmmm....
no, totally wrong. The P6 (intel's mobile) achetecture is totally different the what conroe will be. And conroe is aimed at the desktop market. PS, Yonah is intel's new mobile core.
That is a wide brush to paint.
They also say that netburst is dead
spiralling heat issues are proabably the main demise of netburst. Its insanly long pipeline allows for huge clock speeds, but it seems clock speeds beyond 4 GHz produce a lot of heat.
said that this new proc will be 5x as fast as the p4.
The new processor will be slower than the p4, thats the whole point if it. Whether it will
perform better remains to be seen
They stated that itll have close to 14 piplines and will be shorter, and clock speeds will be closer to 2 ghz. This sounds to me that they are going the way of amd,
Not sure about that pipeline count, depends on if they are counting the stage front ends or not. I think i better guess would be a 20 stage pipline would be more reasonable
Also note that the P4 northwood had a 20 stage pipeline, intel can hardly be said to be following amd on this one.
One thing is for sure, this core will be substantially different to the P6 (mobile), NetBurst, and EPIC.
i think we had a topic on this already
EDIT: yep we did
