So...how much does other thermal paste actually help? I was bored last weekend so I found what was probably my slowest processor. This particular one was a Celeron 1.7GHz. I stuck it in a vice grip and began lightly crushing it until I could pop the metal top off. Sorry guys, I know the processor wasn't "THAT" bad, but I'd much rather use my P4 1.5
Anyway, I was rather suprised at what I found. Obviously, under the metal was the processor die. What gets me, though, is that they just used basic white thermal paste. I understand them having to use something, but it seems like they'd of used a better method. That or Arctic silver's over rated
Now, I don't suggest you go and start trying what I did to improve your temps. I did end up cracking the die. About the only other method to access this would be with a dremel, and I don't think that'd turn out too well... It's just a thought.
