Intermittent computer problem...

Have XP, P3 unit, and every once in a while, something intermittent happens. It is not a virus or trojan, but is some kind of heat problem or an contact problem.

Usually it is black screen, and sometimes it will start to reboot up. Other times it is black screen, and computer will not reboot, until I shut it off for a bit, and then it starts right up.

I have replaced the Cmos battery, with a good battery, so it is not that.

I have replaced the fan on top of the MCU unit, so it does not seem to be that.

I have not tried to replace the heat sink grease under the fan or under the MCU chip.

any suggestions????
 
sounds like a heat problem to me. i forgot to plug in my cpu fan once and that happened. i would change the thermal grease or try an new heatsink or fan or both.
