intermittent CPU spikes

I have this problem while using my computer in general, where every 2-3 mins ill get cpu spikes of around 98% for no reason. It kills me when im playing games cause it drops my fps to around 5 and its annoying when Im doing homework. As far as I know its not a virus...

Any ideas?

Leave Task Manager up and running on applications or processes tab till it starts and see whats kicking in.

Problem sorted. The frustration led me to just format everything which in the end worked.
