Internal Card Reader Issue - Code 47

The card reader that came installed on my HP started acting up. The reader would work one time after a reboot. After correctly removing the SD card the reader would not read again; unless a reboot of the computer was performed.

An Error Code 47 - directed that the device be unplugged and plugged back in. I did that once and the reader worked great for several months. The reader went back to not reading the card(s) and I again unplugged the device. The device still would not read the card(s) except once after a reboot.

Believing the device was bad; I bought another and installed it this evening. It worked great right after reboot but only once. If a reboot is performed it will read card(s) just once.

What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

If you are pressing the safely remove hardware protocols, then you may be shutting down the card reader when you are stopping activity on the card. Make sure that you are selecting the card only on that menu, or you can try and make sure that all files accessed on the card are closed and that the activity light is off, and then just pull it out. Wouldn't necessarily recommend doing the second idea because you can damage the images if you don't do it correctly, but if you shut down the built-in card reader, you can't get it reactivated unless you restart the computer.
