Internal HHD to USB while remaining internal

Hey, I have 2 ssd's that I want to use, I only have 4 sata connections on my mobo, was wondering if I adapted one of my internal HHD's to usb, if it would run continuously or only when accessed? Thanks

Get an internal PCI-e SATA card to add more ports and just make your life easier.

I probably will, I have an old pci raid card, but I hate raid

You don't need to run it in RAID. You're just using it for the extra SATA ports. Unless you enable RAID it'll run like any other SATA port.

When using my raid card, Is there any way to bypass the 'Scanning drives' part of boot up? Or is that a necessity?

It's necessary to detect the attached devices.
