Internal or External DVD burner?

Hey guys,

Ok well i work at a local Office Depot and we have both of these DVD burners for about the same price. I would like to know which one yall would go with.

Right now i have the: LG GSA-2164D External DVD burner at $71.02
it comes with Nero express but i dont like the software :mad: so i was wondering if i were to stay with this, could i use any other DVD burning software. Oh say Ulead. (which when i installed wouldnt detect the LG)

Or second choice is a:

Sony DRU-810A Internal DVD burner. $71.01
its internal so guess it takes up less room. and my other CD-RW drive is Sony. I think this one comes with Nero as well. but im not sure.

So im just wondering which to go with. I can easily return my LG and get the Sony. i just dont know which one to go with.

Also does anyone know of a good media organizer? I tried MediaMan but you have to import media by UPC, and barcodes.

i personally prefer internal to external because 1. i've never used external and 2. i have no room for it around my desk and less likely of it being dropped or destroyed. Im not sure on this but it would make sense that an internal drive be faster than external since i would think external has to be hooked up through USB
 
Internal drives are more reliable and what not. If you don't plan to use it on other computers, go internal. If you have say a laptop or something and wish to move it around, go with external
 
I would go internal unless you don't have any space in your pc or for some bizarre reason don't have any IDE channels available. Fewer problems, fewer wires and plugs.

I have not tried an external burner so I can't tell you why Ulead won't recognize the burner. Does Explorer see the drive?

External burners are much slower, maily cuz they have to work through USB instead of IDE (dont know why, USB is supposedly faster) and yes, they are much more reliable. You dont have to worry about dropping an internal one off your desk, either.
 
I have an external drive because I have my CPU on a shelf below the desk. The cpu is under there to get rid of the noise of fans. The external drive allows me to have a drive accessible up near the keyboard. I have the LG you mentioned & I love it. It is very quiet. Much quieter than my Pioneer internal!
