Internal SATA External PCI Slot Adapter Question :S

Hey guys,

Just a quick question I am wondering what exactly a "Internal SATA to eSATA External PCI Slot Adapter Cable" is. Basically I am doing some "mods" to a gaming console. And I am trying to connect the dvd drive (BENQ; VAD6380? Model #) to my computer. I was just wondering if this is what I am needing to successfully connect the BenQ drive to my computer (To dump / flash). I dont believe this is breaking any forum rules, if so mod's please delete my post.

On many case you will see an eSATA port as well as usb and audio jacks. The external port allows for an external sata drive to plugged into a sata port on the board with the extension cable running from board to front or top eSATA port.

If the BenQ optical drive there isn't an external sata type drive it won't work. If it's not an ide type it wouldn't work either on pc. First you have to know the type of interface the drive uses to connect to the gamining system.

You can connect it like that if it is Sata. This is what your talking about, its just a bracket that fits in one of your PCI Back bracket slots and you plug it in the Sata/eSata port on your motherboard.

The board itself see one type of plug while the external drives see a difterent type. The outer plug on the front or top of the case or on any adapter card is the conversion seen there since you can't plug an external model directly into the board. It's like taking a pair of headphones with a 1/4" plug and using a 1/4" to 1/8" reducer in that sense in order to use them on a portable player.
