Internet access failure

Hi

Thanks for reading this thread.......

Could you please give me some direction?? I have a very annoying problem regarding Internet access in my house and I am hitting a brick wall regarding how to resolve the issue...

Originally I had a hard-wired network round my house via a 2 MB broadband connection via a modem to a router... I upgrade to a 8mb connection speed and the other boys in house could all connect to the Internet at the same time with naturally a loss in connection speed. No problems indeed we used to connect to the same game servers and have a good laugh...hurray

However when one of boys move out we dropped the connect speed back to 2mb provide by the same IP Internet company. This is when the problem started. This has resulted in now only one of us can go on the Internet at any one time. If a second person tries to connect they just get limited connectivity and no Internet access.

In order for us to go on the net one at a time the other person has to physically disconnect the cable from router and turn off the modem for thirty seconds and turn it back on. This reset the modem and the other person can then go on the net… this is highly annoying….

An IT consultant in work informed me that I need a second IP address to enable the router and Internet to work and allow two people on the net at the same time??. I contacted my Internet provider and they told me they only provide one IP address and to get lost as from there perspective they are providing working Internet access to my house and if my router and network is not work it is not there problem. I can see they point but a little help and understanding would have been nice… I have purchased a new router a net gear router in the hope of solving this problem but no joy. I would dearly like to get my Internet access work as :-

We have to keep switching off and on the modem and plug in and out the cables

We cannot both on the net at the same time… hence it a fight to get on the net

I would like also to stream music from upstairs to down stairs via the network but I need to get the network round the house to function first.

Any help would be gratefully received…………….

Many thanks

Alan

Hey friend according to me some problem is occurred with your settings so have to check them..or something happened to your window also..i may happened some time that due to insufficient installation of window also causes the problems like internet won't work so check this out..

Needing a second IP address is not needed. I have 2 connected to my cable connection through a router and we have no problems connecting at the same time.

Do you have DHCP set up correctly on your router? I am betting there is a problem with one of your settings.
